It is narrated from the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), that she said: I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) laugh so fully that the back of his throat could be seen; he (peace and blessings be upon him) would only smile. She said: When he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw clouds or wind, signs of concern would appear on his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed face. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, when people see clouds they rejoice, hoping there will be rain in them, but I see that when you see them, signs of dislike appear on your face!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Aishah, what can make me secure that there is no punishment in it, when a people were punished by wind, and indeed a people saw the punishment coming?" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Then when they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said: 'This is a cloud bringing us rain'" [Surah al-Ahqaf: 24].
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it with this wording.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Wahb is Abd Allah, Amr bin al-Harith is Abu Umayyah al-Misri, and Abu al-Nadr is Salim bin Abi Umayyah. Reference / Source: Ahmad (40/ 24369), al-Bukhari (4828-4829, 6092), Muslim (899) and Abu Dawud (5098) recorded it via various routes from Ibn Wahb with this same chain; so al-Hakim's counting it as an addition (mustadrak) is an oversight on his part. In al-Bukhari and Muslim it has this same wording except at its end, where the wording is: "A people saw the punishment and said: This is a cloud bringing us rain." Reference / Source: Ahmad (42/ 25342) and al-Nasa'i (1845) recorded it via Tawus, and Ahmad (43/ 26037), al-Bukhari (3206), Muslim (899), Ibn Majah (3891), al-Tirmidhi (3257), al-Nasa'i (1844, 11428) and Ibn Hibban (658) via Ata' bin Abi Rabah, both of them from A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her).
