حَدَّثَنَا عبد الرحمن بن الحسن القاضي بهَمَذان، حَدَّثَنَا إبراهيم بن الحسين، حَدَّثَنَا آدم بن أبي إياس، حَدَّثَنَا ابن أبي ذِئْب، عن المَقبُري، عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "ما أدري أتبَّعٌ لَعينًا كان أم لا، وما أدري أذو القَرنَينِ كان نبيًّا أم لا، وما أدري الحدودُ كفَّارةٌ لأهلِها أم لا" (1)
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not know whether Tubba' was accursed or not, and I do not know whether Dhu al-Qarnayn was a prophet or not, and I do not know whether the hudud (prescribed punishments) are an expiation (for sins) for those upon whom they are carried out or not."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

(1) حديث صحيح إن شاء الله تعالى، وهذا إسناد فيه ضعف من جهة عبد الرحمن بن الحسن القاضي شيخ المصنّف، لكنه لم ينفرد به، فقد سلف عند المصنّف برقم (104) من رواية عبد الرزاق عن معمر عن ابن أبي ذئب.
Grading: This hadith is, Allah the Exalted willing, "sahih", although there is weakness in this chain on the part of the author's shaykh Abd al-Rahman bin al-Hasan al-Qadi; but he is not alone in it.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The narration of Abd al-Razzaq from Ma'mar from Ibn Abi Dhi'b has passed earlier with the author (al-Hakim) at no. (104).
وأخرجه البيهقي في "السنن" 8/ 329 عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد.
