Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3684

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard a man reciting the Qur'an who made a grammatical error (lahn) in his recitation, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Guide your brother."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain has "softness" (lin).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its narrators up to Damrah (Ibn Rabi'ah al-Ramli) are thiqah. About "Sa'd bin Abd Allah bin Sa'd" (al-Ayli), Abu Hatim said "la ba'sa bihi" (there is no harm in him), and Ibn Hibban and others mentioned him in al-Thiqat. But his father's biography was given only by Ibn Asakir (Tarikh Dimashq 29/ 44-45), who mentioned that he was in charge of the police (shurtah) of Umar bin Abd al-Aziz, but did not indicate that he had any narrations.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn Wahb in "Fada'il al-Qur'an" (3/ 78) from Isma'il bin Ayyash, from Sa'id bin Abd Allah al-Qurashi, from Abu al-Zinad: that a man recited in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (and he mentioned the rest).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The printed edition has "from Abu al-Zinad"; most likely this is a distortion of "Abu al-Darda'". As for "Sa'id bin Abd Allah al-Qurashi", he may be the brother of "Sa'd" (for they were three brothers: Sa'd, Sa'id and al-Hakam), and Ibn Hibban mentioned Sa'id in al-Thiqat. Or the name may be a distortion of "Sa'd", in which case the hadith goes back to Sa'd bin Abd Allah. Either way, there is a "break" (inqita') between them and Abu al-Darda'. And Allah knows best.
