It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Secure knowledge." I said: "What is meant by securing it?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Writing it."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abd Allah bin al-Mu'ammal is weak and "munkar al-hadith" (his narrations are denounced), and he was inconsistent (idtirab) in the chain of this narration. Reference / Source: Al-Ramahurmuzi (315), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (14330) and "al-Awsat" (548), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Hilyah" (3/ 321), al-Bayhaqi in "al-Madkhal" (763), al-Khatib in "Taqyid al-'Ilm" (p. 68), Ibn Abd al-Barr (412) and Ibn al-Jawzi (96) narrated it through various routes from Sa'id bin Sulayman with this same chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): In al-Tabarani's "al-Awsat" the name of Ibn Jurayj has dropped out of the chain. (95). Details of the narration: Surayj bin al-Nu'man narrated it through the chain of Abd Allah bin al-Mu'ammal from Ibn Abi Mulaykah from Abd Allah bin Amr bin al-As. Reference / Source: See: Taqyid al-'Ilm (68), al-Jami' (439) and al-'Ilal (95). 75. Details of the narration: Ma'n bin Isa also narrated it from Abd Allah bin al-Mu'ammal, from Amr bin Shu'ayb from his father from his grandfather (Abd Allah bin Amr bin al-As). Reference / Source: Al-Khatib's "Taqyid al-'Ilm" (pp. 69 and 75). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Isma'il bin Yahya corroborated this narration from Amr bin Shu'ayb from his father from his grandfather, via Ibn Abi Dhi'b from Amr bin Shu'ayb. Technical note / Defect ('illah): If Isma'il bin Yahya is "Abu Yahya al-Taymi", then he is "muttaham bi al-kadhib" (accused of lying), and it is for this reason that Ibn al-Jawzi declared it defective; so this corroboration is of no use. Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak). Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator Imran bin Musa is "not known" (unknown), and Imam Makhul's hearing from Abd Allah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) is not established (there is a break in the chain). Reference / Source: Tarikh Dimashq (43/ 522-523). (364). Important point: The most authentic narration reported in this chapter from Abd Allah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) is the one that has already passed with the author under number (364).
