أخبرنا إسماعيل بن محمد بن الفضل بن محمد الشَّعْراني، حدثنا جدِّي، حدثنا عمرو بن عَوْن، حدثنا هُشيم، أخبرنا أبو بِشْر، عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عبَّاس قال: جاء العاصُ بن وائل إلى رسول الله ﷺ بعَظْمٍ حائل ففَتَّه، فقال: يا محمدُ، أيَبعَثُ اللهُ هذا بعد ما أَرى؟ قال: "نعم، يَبعَثُ اللهُ هذا ثم يميتُك، ثم يُحييكَ، ثم يُدخِلُك نارَ جهنَّم"، قال: فنزلت الآيات: ﴿أَوَلَمْ يَرَ الْإِنْسَانُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُبِينٌ﴾ [يس: 77] إلى آخر السورة (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that al-As bin Wa'il came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) carrying a decayed bone and crumbled it (with his hand), then said: "O Muhammad, will Allah raise this (again) when I see it in this (decayed) state?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, Allah will raise this again, then He will cause you to die, then He will bring you to life, and then He will enter you into the fire of Hell." The narrator said: Thereupon these verses were revealed: "Does man not see that We created him from a sperm-drop, and then behold, he is an open adversary?" [Surah Ya Sin: 77] to the end of the surah.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(1) إسناده صحيح. أبو بشر: هو جعفر بن إياس أبي وحشيّة.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Abu Bishr is Ja'far bin Iyas Abi Wahshiyyah.
وأخرجه ابن أبي الدنيا في "الأهوال" (88)، والطبري في "تفسيره" 23/ 30 - 31، والإسماعيلي في "معجمه" 3/ 742، والضياء في "المختارة" (10/ 82) من طرق عن هشيم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "al-Ahwal" (88), al-Tabari (23/ 30-31), al-Isma'ili in "al-Mu'jam" (3/ 742) and al-Diya' in "al-Mukhtarah" (10/ 82) through several routes via Hushaym, with this chain.
والعَظْم الحائل: المتغيِّر بالبِلَى.
Note / Clarification: "al-'Azm al-Ha'il": a bone that has changed through decay.
