حدثنا أبو العبَّاس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا أبو بَكْرة بكَّار بن قُتيبة القاضي بمصر، حدثنا مُطرِّف بن مازن، حدثنا مَعمَر بن راشد، سمعتُ محمد بن عبد الرحمن الغِفَاري يقول: سمعت أبا هريرة يقول: سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول: "لقد أَعذَرَ اللهُ إلى عبدٍ عَمَّره ستينَ أو سبعينَ سنةً، لقد أَعذرَ اللهُ في عُمرِه إليه" (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Allah Almighty has left no excuse for a servant to whom He granted a life of sixty or seventy years; indeed, Allah has left him no room for excuse in his lifespan."

(2) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لضعف مطرِّف بن مازن الصنعاني، وقد وهمَ فيه على معمر في موضعين: الأول: في تسمية شيخه، فلم نقف على ترجمة في هذه الطبقة بهذا الاسم، والصواب أنه معن بن محمد الغفاري كما وقع في رواية البخاري (6419) وغيره، الثاني: في إسقاط الواسطة بين الغفاري وأبو هريرة والتصريح بالسماع بينهما، فإنه لا يُحفظ من رواية الغفاري إلّا بواسطة سعيد المقبري بينه وبين أبي هريرة كما سيأتي في الرواية التالية.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, but this chain is "da'if" (weak) because of the weakness of "Mutarrif bin Mazin al-San'ani".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He made a "mistake" (wahm) in two places in narrating it from Ma'mar. First: he gave the name of his shaykh wrongly; no narrator by this name is found in this generation, and the correct one is "Ma'n bin Muhammad al-Ghifari" (as in al-Bukhari 6419). Second: he dropped the intermediary between al-Ghifari and Abu Hurayrah and stated explicit hearing, whereas al-Ghifari's narration from Abu Hurayrah is not preserved except through "Sa'id al-Maqburi" (as in the next narration).
وأخرجه الطبري 22/ 142، وأبو طاهر المخلِّص في "المخلصيات" (998) من طريق بقية بن الوليد، عن مطرف بن مازن، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: It was recorded by al-Tabari (22/ 142) and Abu Tahir al-Mukhallis in "al-Mukhallisiyyat" (998) via Baqiyyah bin al-Walid, from Mutarrif bin Mazin, with this chain.
