It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both): I used to write down everything I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in order to memorise it. Then Quraysh stopped me and said: "Do you write down everything you hear from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is a human being who speaks in (both states of) contentment and anger?" So I stopped and mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Write, for by the One in whose Hand is my soul, nothing but the truth has come out of it (this mouth)," and he (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his blessed hand to his blessed mouth.
The two Shaykhs used all the narrators of this hadith as evidence except al-Walid, and I think he is al-Walid bin Abi al-Walid al-Shami; if so, Imam Muslim used him as evidence.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Technical note / Defect ('illah): In the chain, "Yahya" refers to Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan, and "Abu al-Muthanna" refers to Mu'adh bin al-Muthanna bin Mu'adh. Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud narrated it (3646) via Musaddad with this same chain, and alongside Musaddad he also mentioned Abu Bakr bin Abi Shaybah. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (11/ 6510) via Yahya bin Sa'id (al-Qattan).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This al-Walid bin Abd Allah is a different narrator from "al-Walid bin Abi al-Walid". He is Ibn Abi al-Mughith, a Meccan, and he is the actual narrator of this hadith; neither of the two Shaykhs narrated anything from him. As for al-Walid bin Abi al-Walid, whom Imam Muslim relied upon as proof, he is older than this one and narrates from Abd Allah bin Amr without an intermediary; his father's name (Abu al-Walid) is Uthman, and he is a Medinan, not a Syrian.
