It is reported from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Allah Almighty said: "Indeed, We offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they declined to bear it and were afraid of it" [Surah al-Ahzab: 72], Adam (peace be upon him) was told: Do you take it with its conditions, that if you obey I will forgive, and if you disobey I warn you? He said: I have accepted. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: Then no more time passed than that between Asr and sunset before that slip occurred from him. This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is sahih. Note / Clarification: Muhammad bin Amr bin Abi Madh'ur is Muhammad bin Amr bin Sulayman bin Abi Madh'ur; Ibn Hibban and al-Daraqutni declared him thiqah (see his biography in "Tarikh Baghdad" 4/ 219), and he has been corroborated. Khalid bin al-Harith is al-Hujaymi Abu Uthman al-Basri, and Abu Bishr is Ja'far bin Abi Wahshiyyah. Reference / Source: Al-Tabari (22/ 54) recorded it via Muhammad bin Ja'far, from Shu'bah, with this same chain. Note / Clarification: Its last part will come in similar wording at number (4037) via Ammar al-Bajali from Sa'id bin Jubayr.
