Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is mudtarib (inconsistently narrated). Its narrators are thiqah, but Hajjaj bin al-Minhal, narrating from Hisham al-Dastuwa'i, alone narrates it in this way, with a full chain as a marfu' hadith of A'ishah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ibn Jurayj and Ma'mar differed from him in Abd al-Razzaq's "Musannaf" (11464), narrating it from Hisham bin Urwah, from his father, as his own saying.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: They (Ibn Jurayj and Ma'mar) were corroborated by Hammad bin Zayd in Sa'id bin Mansur's "Sunan" (1054), and by al-Layth bin Sa'd in Ibn Abi Dawud, in what the hafiz Ibn Hajar recorded via him in "al-Taghliq" (4/ 442).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hisham bin Sa'd (who is hasan in hadith in corroborating chains and supporting reports) narrated it, and there was disagreement over it from him: Hammad bin Khalid al-Khayyat narrated it, in Ibn Abi Shaybah (5/ 16 and 14/ 224), al-Tahawi's "Mushkil al-Athar" (2/ 135) and al-Bayhaqi's "Sunan" (7/ 321), from Hisham bin Sa'd, from al-Zuhri, from Urwah, from A'ishah, as mawquf, her own saying.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ali bin al-Husayn bin Waqid differed from him, in Ibn Majah (2048), al-Tabarani's "al-Awsat" (7028) and Ibn Adi's "al-Kamil" (7/ 109), narrating it from Hisham bin Sa'd, from al-Zuhri, from Urwah, from al-Miswar bin Makhramah, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Ibn Adi inserted al-Husayn bin Waqid, Ali's father, between Ali bin al-Husayn bin Waqid and Hisham. This Ali is not that strong, but Bishr bin al-Sari corroborated him in narrating the hadith from al-Miswar, as al-Daraqutni mentioned in "al-Ilal" (3816); he mentioned that Bishr also narrated it from Hisham bin Sa'd, from al-Zuhri, making it a marfu' hadith of A'ishah. Then al-Daraqutni said: What is correct from Hisham bin Sa'd is what Hammad bin Khalid said (that is, mawquf as her own saying). And Allah knows best.
Reference / Source: Al-Daraqutni also recorded it in his "Sunan" (3936) via Ma'mar bin Bakkar al-Sa'di, from Ibrahim bin Sa'd, from al-Zuhri, from Urwah, from A'ishah, as marfu'.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): But this Ma'mar is not a hafiz, as the hafiz Ibn Hajar said in "al-Fath" (16/ 87), and he makes errors.
Important point: The best marfu' report on this topic is the hadith of Amr bin Shu'ayb from his father from his grandfather, which has passed in the author's work at number (2856).
