Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3571

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah Almighty, "And the heart of the mother of Musa became empty," that he said: (It means that her heart) became empty of everything except the remembrance of Musa (peace be upon him). Concerning "She was about to disclose it" [Surah al-Qasas: 10], he said that she was on the verge of crying out (in the surge of a mother's love): "Oh, my son!" Concerning "And she said to his sister: Follow him" [Surah al-Qasas: 11], he said: (It means) trace his footsteps (that is, go after him). And concerning "And We had forbidden him the wet nurses before" [Surah al-Qasas: 12], he said: (It means that) whichever wet nurse was brought to him, he would not accept her.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. The two Shaykhs have used Hassan bin Abi Abbad as evidence.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Note / Clarification: Sufyan is Sufyan al-Thawri, and Hassan is "Ibn Abi al-Ashras Abu al-Ashras", not "Ibn Abi Abbad" as the author (al-Hakim) thought.
Reference / Source: Its opening part was recorded by al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" (20/ 35), and likewise by Ibn Abi Hatim (9/ 2946), through two routes from Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi, with this chain. Also, al-Tabari (20/ 35) narrated it through Jabir bin Nuh, from al-A'mash, from Mujahid and Hassan Abu al-Ashras.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi objected to it in "al-Talkhis", saying: So he (the author) said, yet it is not known who "Hassan bin Abi Abbad" is; in fact al-A'mash narrates from "Hassan bin Abi al-Ashras", who narrates from Ibn Jubayr, and he is "thiqah"; only al-Nasa'i recorded from him. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in "Ithaf al-Maharah" (7563): This Hassan is indeed "Ibn Abi al-Ashras"; the two Shaykhs did not narrate from him. As for "Hassan bin Abi Abbad", he is a narrator of a later generation than this one.
