سَيَكُونُ فِي آخِرِ الزَّمَانِ نَاسٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يُحَدِّثُونَكُمْ بِمَا لَمْ تَسْمَعُوا
At the end of time there will be people from my Ummah who will tell you what you have not heard

حدثنا أبو العباس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا الحسن بن علي بن عفّان، حدثنا عبد الله بن نُمَير، عن الأعمش، عن عُمَارة بن عُمير ومالك بن الحارث، عن عبد الرحمن بن يزيد، عن عبد الله قال: الاقتصادُ في السُّنة، أحسنُ من الاجتهاد في البِدْعة (1). رواه الثَّوري عن الأعمش عن مالك بن الحارث:
It is narrated from Abd al-Rahman bin Yazid that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Moderation in following the Sunnah is better than striving hard in innovation."

Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): "Abd Allah" mentioned in the chain refers to the well-known Companion of the Messenger, Abd Allah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him).
وأخرجه البيهقي 3/ 380 عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Imam al-Bayhaqi narrated it (3/ 380) via Imam Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain.
وأخرجه ابن بطة في "الإبانة" 1/ 337 عن إسماعيل بن محمد الصفار، عن الحسن بن علي بن عفّان، به.
Reference / Source: Ibn Battah narrated it in "al-Ibanah" (1/ 337) through the chain of Isma'il bin Muhammad al-Saffar from al-Hasan bin Ali bin Affan.
وأخرجه أحمد في "الزهد" (871)، والدارمي (223)، واللالكائي في "أصول الاعتقاد" (13 - 14)، وابن بطة 1/ 357 من طرق عن الأعمش، به.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it in "al-Zuhd" (871), Imam al-Darimi (223), al-Lalika'i in "Usul al-I'tiqad" (13-14) and Ibn Battah (1/ 357) through various routes from Imam al-A'mash (Sulayman bin Mihran).
