It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you enter your houses, greet the people of the house with salam, and when you eat, mention the name of Allah. For when one of you gives salam on entering his house and mentions the name of Allah over his food, Satan says to his companions: 'La mabita lakum wa la asha'a' (There is no place for you to spend the night (here), and no supper). And when one of you does not give salam (on entering) and does not mention the name of Allah over his food, Satan says to his companions: 'Adraktumul-mabita wal-asha'a' (You have found a place to spend the night, and supper)."
This hadith is gharib (singular) in this chapter with respect to both its chain and its text, and concerning Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Makhzumi, I fear that he is Ibn Zabalah; and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. Imam al-Hakim Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Hafiz dictated this in Rajab of the year 400 AH.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "talif" (ruined/extremely weak). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Makhzumi in it is "Ibn Zabalah", who is matruk al-hadith (abandoned in hadith) and accused of lying (muttaham bi al-kadhib). Furthermore, al-Harith bin Fudayl did not meet Jabir (so the chain is also broken). And the author (Imam al-Hakim) is alone in bringing this hadith with this chain and wording. (819). Grading: However, this hadith is established as "sahih" through Abu al-Zubayr from Jabir, that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When a man enters his house and remembers Allah on entering and at his meal, Satan says (to his followers): There is no place to spend the night for you and no supper. And when he enters and does not remember Allah on entering, Satan says: You have found a place to spend the night. And when he (also) does not remember Allah at his meal, Satan says: You have found both a place to spend the night and supper." Reference / Source: It was recorded by Ahmad (23/ 15108), Muslim (2018), Abu Dawud (3765), Ibn Majah (3887), al-Nasa'i (6724) and Ibn Hibban (819).
