It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah Almighty, "But when you enter houses, give greetings of peace upon yourselves" [Surah al-Nur: 61], that he said: "What is meant is the mosque; when you enter it, say: 'Assalamu alayna wa ala ibadillahis-salihin' (Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
