أخبرنا أبو جعفر محمد بن محمد بن عبد الله البغدادي، حدثنا يحيى بن عثمان بن صالح السَّهْمي، حدثني أبي، حدثنا ابن وَهْب، أخبرني يونس بن يزيد، عن ابن شِهاب، حدثني حُمَيد بن عبد الرحمن بن عَوْف، عن المِسوَر بن مَخرَمة، أنه سمع عمر بن الخطّاب يقول: تَعلَّموا سورةَ البقرة وسورةَ النساء وسورةَ المائدة وسورة الحج وسورةَ النُّور، فإنَّ فيهنَّ الفرائضَ (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Learn Surah al-Baqarah, Surah al-Nisa', Surah al-Ma'idah, Surah al-Hajj and Surah al-Nur, for in them are the obligations (the rulings on inheritance and other prescribed limits)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(2) إسناده حسن من أجل يحيى بن عثمان وأبيه.
Grading: (2) Its chain is "hasan" because of Yahya bin Uthman and his father.
وأخرجه البيهقي في "شعب الإيمان" (2226) عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (2226) through al-Hakim.
وأخرجه الواحدي في "الوسيط" 2/ 3 من طريق محمد بن يحيى الذهلي، عن عثمان بن صالح، به.
Reference / Source: Al-Wahidi narrated it in "al-Wasit" (2/ 3) from Muhammad bin Yahya al-Dhuhli from Uthman bin Salih.
