حدثني علي بن عيسى بن إبراهيم، حدثنا أحمد بن نَجْدة، حدثنا يحيى بن عبد الحميد، حدثنا شَريك (3)، عن عثمان بن أبي زُرْعة، عن عامر بن سعد البَجَلي قال: دخلتُ على قَرَظة بن كعب وأبي مسعود وزيد بن ثابت، فإذا عندهم جَوَاري يُغنِّينَ، فقلت لهم: أتفعلون هذا وأنتم أصحابُ رسول الله ﷺ؟! فقالوا: إن كنتَ تسمعُ وإلَّا فامضِ، فإنَّ رسول الله ﷺ رَخَّصَ لنا في اللَّهو في العُرْس، وفي البكاء عند الميت (4).
It is narrated from Amir bin Sa'd al-Bajali: I went in to Qarazah bin Ka'b, Abu Mas'ud and Zayd bin Thabit, and saw that girls were singing in their presence. I said to them: "You do this while you are Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?!" They said: "If you wish to listen, sit; otherwise go, for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) granted us a concession for amusement (expressing joy) at a wedding, and for weeping over the deceased."

(4) حديث حسن، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لضعف يحيى بن عبد الحميد: وهو الحِمّاني، وشريك - وهو ابن عبد الله النَّخَعي - متكلَّم في حفظه، وهو في الجملة حسن الحديث إلّا إذا خالف أو أتى بما يُنكَر. ¤ ¤ والمحفوظ في هذا الحديث: شريك عن أبي إسحاق السَّبيعي عن عامر بن سعد البجلي، هكذا رواه ثقات أصحاب شريك، منهم ابن أبي شيبة في "مصنفه" 4/ 192، وعلي بن حُجْر السعدي عند النسائي (5539)، وأبو غسان النَّهدي فيما سيأتي عند المصنف برقم (2787)، وقد تابعه عن أبي إسحاق فيه شعبةُ فيما سيأتي برقم (2786).
Grading: The hadith is "hasan".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This chain is weak because of the weakness of Yahya bin Abd al-Hamid al-Himmani; also, the memory of Sharik bin Abd Allah al-Nakha'i has been criticised, though overall he is "hasan al-hadith" provided that he does not contradict thiqah narrators or bring a munkar narration. The "mahfuz" (preserved, correct) version of this hadith is that Sharik narrated it from Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i, from Amir bin Sa'd al-Bajali; Sharik's thiqah students such as Ibn Abi Shaybah (4/ 192), Ali bin Hujr al-Sa'di (al-Nasa'i: 5539) and Abu Ghassan al-Nahdi (number 2787) narrated it this way, and Imam Shu'bah also corroborated it from Abu Ishaq (number 2786).
والجارية: البنت الصغيرة.
Important point: Linguistically, "jariyah" refers to a young girl.
