It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her), supplicated: "O Allah, let me enjoy (the lives of) my husband, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), my father Abu Sufyan and my brother Mu'awiyah." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "You have asked Allah Almighty about life-spans that are already fixed, provisions that have already been apportioned, and footsteps that will (inevitably) reach (their end). None of them will come before its time, nor be delayed after its time. Had you asked Allah to grant you well-being, or asked Him to protect you from the punishment of the Fire or the punishment of the grave, or to grant you well-being, it would have been better for you."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: (1) Its chain is "sahih". Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (2969) recorded it via Abu Khaythamah Zuhayr bin Harb, from Ja'far bin 'Awn, with this chain. Ahmad (6/ 3700 and 7/ 4254) and Muslim (2663/ 32) also recorded it via several routes from Mis'ar, with it. Important point: Al-Hakim's including it as a supplement (istidrak) is an "oversight" (dhuhul). Reference / Source: Ahmad (7/ 3925) and Muslim (2663/ 33) recorded it via Sufyan al-Thawri, from 'Alqamah bin Marthad, with it.
