أخبرنا أبو جعفر محمد بن محمد البغدادي، حدثنا يحيى بن عثمان بن صالح السَّهْمي، حدثني أَبي، حدثنا يحيى بن أيوب، عن عُبيد الله بن زَحْر، عن علي بن يزيد، عن القاسم بن عبد الرحمن، عن أبي أُمامةَ قال: لما وُضِعَت أمُّ كُلْثوم بنت رسول الله ﷺ في القبر، قال رسول الله ﷺ: ﴿مِنْهَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ وَفِيهَا نُعِيدُكُمْ وَمِنْهَا نُخْرِجُكُمْ تَارَةً أُخْرَى﴾ [طه: 55]، باسم الله وفي سبيلِ الله وعلى مِلَّة رسول الله"، فلما بُنِيَ عليها لَحْدُها طَفِقَ يَطرَحُ إليهم الجَبُوبَ ويقول: "سُدُّوا خِلالَ اللَّبِنِ" ثم قال: "أمَا إِنَّ هذا ليس بشيءٍ، ولكنَّه يُطيِّبُ بنَفْس الحيِّ" (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when Sayyidah Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), was lowered into the grave, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "From it (the earth) We created you, into it We will return you, and from it We will bring you out once again" [Surah Ta Ha: 55], and said: 'Bismillahi wa fi sabilillahi wa 'ala millati Rasulillah' (In the name of Allah, in the path of Allah, and upon the religion of the Messenger of Allah). Then, when her lahd (niche grave) had been prepared, he (peace and blessings be upon him) began to throw earth to the people present there, saying: "Close the gaps between the bricks." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, this (earth and brick) is of no real benefit (that is, it does not benefit the deceased), but it comforts the hearts of the living."

(1) إسناده ضعيف جدًّا من أجل علي بن يزيد - وهو الألْهاني - ووهَّى الذهبي الخبر في "تلخيصه" وقال: لأنَّ علي بن يزيد متروك. قلنا: وعبيد الله بن زَحْر فيه ضعف وبخاصة في علي بن يزيد.
Grading: (1) Its chain is "very weak" (da'if jiddan) because of 'Ali bin Yazid (al-Alhani). Al-Dhahabi declared it feeble in "al-Talkhis" and wrote: "because 'Ali bin Yazid is matruk (abandoned)".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): We say: 'Ubaydullah bin Zahr also has "weakness", especially when he narrates from 'Ali bin Yazid.
وأخرجه أحمد 36/ (22187) من طريق عبد الله بن المبارك، عن يحيى بن أيوب، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (36/ 22187) recorded it via 'Abdullah bin al-Mubarak, from Yahya bin Ayyub, with this chain.
