أخبرني أبو محمد عبد الله بن إسحاق الخُزَاعي بمكة، حدثنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن زكريا بن أبي مَسَرَّة، حدثنا عبد الله بن يزيد المقرئ، حدثنا حَيْوةُ، أخبرني بَشِير بن أبي عمرو الخَوْلاني، أنَّ الوليد بن قيس التُّجِيبي حدَّثه، أنه سمع أبا سعيد الخُدْري يقول: سمعتُ رسول الله ﷺ وتَلَا هذه الآية: ﴿فَخَلَفَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ خَلْفٌ﴾ [مريم: 59]، فقال ﷺ: "يكون خَلْفٌ من بعدِ ستينَ سنةً أضاعوا الصلاةَ واتَّبَعوا الشَّهَواتِ، فسوف يَلقَونَ غَيًّا، ثم يكون خَلْفٌ يقرؤُون القرآن لا يَعْدُو تَرَاقِيَهم، ويقرأُ القرآنَ ثلاثةٌ: مؤمنٌ ومنافقٌ وفاجرٌ". قال بَشِير: فقلت للوليد: ما هؤلاءِ الثلاثةُ؟ فقال: المنافقُ كافر، والفاجرُ يتأكَّلُ به والمؤمنُ يؤمنُ به (2).
هذا حديث صحيح، رواتُه حجازيُّون وشاميُّون أثباتٌ، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recite this verse: "Then there succeeded them a (bad) generation" [Surah Maryam: 59], and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After sixty years there will come an unworthy generation who will neglect the prayers and follow their desires, so they will soon meet 'Ghayy' (a valley in Hell). Then there will be people who recite the Qur'an, but it will not go beyond their throats. And three kinds of people will recite the Qur'an: the believer, the hypocrite and the wicked." The narrator Bashir said: I asked al-Walid: What is meant by these three? He said: The hypocrite is one who rejects it (a disbeliever), the wicked one fills his stomach (earns his living) by means of it, and the believer truly believes in it.
This hadith is sahih (authentic), and all its narrators are reliable, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) إسناده حسن من أجل الوليد بن قيس التجيبي. حيوة: هو ابن شريح المصري.
Grading: (2) Its chain is "hasan" because of al-Walid bin Qays al-Tujibi.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Haywah is Ibn Shurayh al-Misri.
وأخرجه أحمد (17/ 11340)، وابن حبان (755) من طريق عبد الله بن يزيد أبي عبد الرحمن المقرئ بهذا الإسناد. وسيأتي برقم (8857).
Reference / Source: Ahmad (17/ 11340) and Ibn Hibban (755) recorded it via 'Abdullah bin Yazid Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Muqri', with this chain. It will come at no. (8857).
