Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) It is "sahih", but with the wording: "Light is made to shine for him between himself and the Ancient House (the Ka'bah)."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yazid bin Khalid bin Yazid al-Ramli corroborated Nu'aym bin Hammad in narrating it as "marfu'", while the rest of Hushaym's students contradicted them and narrated it as "mawquf". Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in "Nata'ij al-Afkar" (5/ 39): "Those who narrated it from Hushaym as mawquf are more numerous and better memorisers, but despite that it has the ruling of marfu', since there is no room for personal opinion in it."
Important point: (We say:) Although Yazid bin Khalid agreed with Nu'aym in narrating it as marfu', he differed from him in its wording, narrating it like the rest of Hushaym's students with the words: "Light is made to shine for him between himself and the Ancient House."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Hashim is "al-Rummani al-Wasiti"; it is said his name is Yahya bin Dinar, and other names are also said. Abu Mijlaz is "Lahiq bin Humayd al-Sadusi".
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (3/ 249), "al-Sunan al-Sughra" (606) and "al-Da'awat" (526) from Abu Abdullah al-Hakim, with this chain. He also narrated it in "Shu'ab al-Iman", after (2220) and (2777), via Yazid bin Khalid bin Yazid, from Hushaym.
Reference / Source: Abu 'Ubayd documented it in "Fada'il al-Qur'an" (p. 244), and Sa'id bin Mansur as in "Tafsir Ibn Kathir" (5/ 131); al-Darimi (3407) documented it from Abu al-Nu'man Muhammad bin al-Fadl, and Ibn al-Durays in "Fada'il al-Qur'an" (211) from Ahmad bin Khalaf al-Baghdadi. All four of them (Abu 'Ubayd, Sa'id bin Mansur, Abu al-Nu'man and Ahmad bin Khalaf) narrate it from Hushaym as "mawquf", with the words: "Light is made to shine for him between himself and the Ancient House."
Note / Clarification: This narration has already passed via Shu'bah, from Abu Hashim, as "marfu'" (as a hadith of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)) at number (2097), and via Sufyan al-Thawri, from Abu Hashim, as "mawquf" (as the saying of a Companion) at number (2102). See its full documentation under number (2097).
Grading: (1) Al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi said in his "Talkhis": "Nu'aym has munkar narrations (dhu manakir)."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): We (the editors) say: he is not alone in it, as preceded, except that he was contradicted in narrating it as marfu'. And Nu'aym is, on the whole, "hasan in hadith", except when he contradicts (trustworthy narrators) or brings something munkar.
