It is narrated from Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her); she said: When the surah "Perish the hands of Abu Lahab" [Surah al-Masad: 1] was revealed, Umm Jamil bint Harb (the wife of Abu Lahab, who was one-eyed) came shrieking and wailing, with a stone in her hand, saying these (insolent verses): "Mudhammaman abayna, wa dinahu qalayna, wa amrahu 'asayna" (We rejected Mudhammam, that is Muhammad, we abandoned his religion, and we disobeyed his command). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting in the mosque, and with him was Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). When Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) saw her, he said: "O Messenger of Allah! She has come, and I fear that she will see you." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She will never see me." He (peace and blessings be upon him) recited some verses of the Qur'an, and he was kept safe from her (coming under Allah's protection) just as he had said; and he recited this verse: "And when you recite the Qur'an, We place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a concealed barrier." [Surah al-Isra': 45] She came and stood by Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), but she did not see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: "O Abu Bakr! I have been told that your companion has satirised me." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By the Lord of this House (the Ka'bah), he has not satirised you at all." The narrator said: So she turned back, saying: "Quraysh know that I am the daughter of their chief."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), and the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) All its narrators are trustworthy (thiqah) and well known, except "Ibn Tadrus". Technical note / Defect ('illah): In our strong opinion he is "Abu al-Zubayr Muhammad bin Muslim bin Tadrus al-Makki"; if it is he, then the chain is "sahih", and Allah knows best. "Al-Humaydi" is Abu Bakr Abdullah bin al-Zubayr, "Sufyan" is Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah, and "al-Walid bin Kathir" is al-Makhzumi Abu Muhammad al-Madani, then al-Kufi. 2/ 195. Reference / Source: This narration is in "Musnad al-Humaydi" at number (323), and via al-Hakim al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (2/ 195). Reference / Source: And Ibn Bashkuwal documented it in "Ghawamid al-Asma' al-Mubhamah" (1/ 191) via Abu Ali al-Sawwaf, from Bishr bin Musa, with this chain. Reference / Source: And al-Azraqi documented it in "Akhbar Makkah" (1/ 53), Abu Ya'la in his "Musnad" (53), Abu Tahir in "al-Mukhallisiyyat" (1447), and al-Wahidi in "al-Wasit" (3/ 110), through various routes from Sufyan bin 'Uyaynah, with the same chain and text. (6511). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And this narration has a similar "shahid" (supporting report) from the hadith of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), with Ibn Hibban (6511). (3989). Note / Clarification: And see the hadith of Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) that will come with the author (al-Hakim) at number (3989).
