أخبرني أحمد بن بالَوَيه العَفْصي، حدثنا محمد بن عثمان بن أبي شَيْبة العَبْسي، حدثنا أبي، حدثنا وَكيع، حدثنا الأعمش، عن أبي وائل قال: كان عبد الله كثيرًا ما يتلو هذه الآية: ﴿إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ﴾ [الإسراء: 9] خَفِيف، قال عثمان: وهذه قراءةُ حمزةَ (2).

It is narrated from Abu Wa'il; he said that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) used often to recite this verse in this way: "Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most upright and gives good tidings to the believers" (and he would read «yubashshiru» light, without doubling, that is «yabshuru»). Uthman (the narrator) said: And this is the reading of Hamzah.

Note / Clarification: And the reading of "yabshur" without doubling (takhfif) was, among the Seven Readers, also read by "al-Kisa'i" besides Hamzah. For details see Ibn Mujahid's book "al-Sab'ah", pp. 205-206.
