Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3361

It is narrated from Abu Wa'il (may Allah have mercy on him) that he said: I heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) recite (the word) "hayta lak" [Surah Yusuf: 23]. When he was asked about this (regarding its recitation), he said: "This is how we were taught."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This report is sahih. The author's shaykh, 'Abd al-Rahman bin al-Hasan, is da'if, but he has been corroborated.
Note / Clarification: Sulayman: he is Ibn Mihran al-A'mash; and Abu Wa'il: he is Shaqiq bin Salamah.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (4692) recorded it through the route of Bishr bin 'Umar, from Shu'bah, with this same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Therefore al-Hakim's including it as a mustadrak is an oversight on his part.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (4004 and 4005) recorded it through two routes from al-A'mash in the same way.
Details of the narration: And in it: that people used to recite this verse as: "wa qalat hi'tu laka".
