It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the people with the most accurate insight (discernment) are three: first, the Aziz of Egypt, when he said to his wife (about Sayyiduna Yusuf, peace be upon him): "Make his stay comfortable; perhaps he will benefit us or we may adopt him as a son" [Surah Yusuf: 21]; second, the woman (Sayyidah Safurah) who said (to her father about Sayyiduna Musa, peace be upon him): "O my father, hire him; indeed, the best one you can hire is the strong and trustworthy" [Surah al-Qasas: 26]; and third, Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), when he chose Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) (for the caliphate) through his insight.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Note / Clarification: Sufyan: he is al-Thawri; Abu Ishaq: he is 'Amr bin 'Abd Allah al-Sabi'i; and Abu al-Ahwas: he is 'Awf bin Malik al-Ashja'i.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah (14/ 574) and al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" (12/ 175) recorded it through the route of Waki' with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in "al-Kabir" (8829), and al-Bayhaqi in "al-I'tiqad" (p. 359), through the route of Muhammad bin Kathir, from Sufyan.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): 'Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi differed in Ibn Abi Hatim's "Tafsir" (7/ 2118 and 9/ 2966), narrating it with the chain "Sufyan al-Thawri from Abu Ishaq from Abu 'Ubaydah from Ibn Mas'ud".
Note / Clarification: And Abu 'Ubaydah: he is Ibn 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud.
Reference / Source: And it will come with the author (al-Hakim) at number (4559) through the route of Zuhayr (Ibn Mu'awiyah al-Ju'fi), from Abu Ishaq, from Abu 'Ubaydah, from Ibn Mas'ud.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Daraqutni said in "al-'Ilal" (912), after mentioning both versions: "It seems that both are sahih." That is, both (routes) are mahfuz (preserved), and neither is faulted by the other.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Hatim also recorded it (7/ 2159) through the route of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq, from al-Qasim bin 'Abd al-Rahman, from Ibn Mas'ud.
Grading: This chain is da'if; 'Abd al-Rahman bin Ishaq (Abu Shaybah al-Wasiti) is da'if, and the narration of al-Qasim bin 'Abd al-Rahman (Ibn 'Abd Allah bin Mas'ud) from his grandfather (Ibn Mas'ud) is mursal.
