It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You hear (from me), and it is heard from you, and it is heard from those who hear from you."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and there is no hidden defect ('illah) in it, but they did not record it. In this chapter there are also narrations from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reported by Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud and Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas (may Allah be pleased with them both), and in the hadith of Thabit bin Qays the third generation (the followers of the Successors) is also mentioned.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih". Reference / Source: Imam Abu Dawud narrated it in his "Sunan" (3659) via two routes from Jarir bin Abd al-Hamid with this same chain. Note / Clarification: See also the narration before it.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author said here (the third generation), whereas the correct is "the fourth generation", unless he meant the third generation after the Companions. Grading: In al-Hakim's book "Ma'rifat Ulum al-Hadith" (p. 60) it is explicitly stated that this hadith contains four generations; however, the chain of this hadith has slight weakness (lin). (1931). Reference / Source: The following imams narrated it as the hadith of Thabit bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) (without mention of the fourth generation) with this same chain: al-Bazzar (Kashf al-Astar: 146), al-Ruyani in his "Musnad" (1005), al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (1321) and "al-Awsat" (5668), al-Ramahurmuzi (91) and Ibn Abd al-Barr (1931). Technical note / Defect ('illah): As for this hadith (with these particular words) of Abd Allah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), we could not trace it.
