وحدثني أبو بكر بن بالَوَيهِ، حدثنا محمد بن شاذانَ، حدثنا علي بن عبد الله، حدثنا أبو داود، حدثنا شُعبة، عن أبي بِشْر، عن مجاهد، عن ابن عمر: ﴿فَقَاتِلُوا أَئِمَّةَ الْكُفْرِ﴾ [التوبة: 12]، قال: أبو جهل بن هشام وأُمَيَّة بن خلف وعُتْبة بن رَبيعة وأبو سفيان بن حَرْب وسُهيل بن عمرو، وهم الذين نَكَثُوا عهدَ الله وهَمُّوا بإخراج الرسول من مكة (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah Almighty: "Then fight the leaders of disbelief" [Surah al-Tawbah: 12], that he said: "(It refers to) Abu Jahl bin Hisham, Umayyah bin Khalaf, Utbah bin Rabi'ah, Abu Sufyan bin Harb and Suhayl bin Amr. They are the ones who broke the covenant of Allah and intended to expel the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from Makkah."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

(2) إسناده صحيح. علي بن عبد الله: هو ابن المديني، وأبو داود: هو سليمان بن داود الجارود الطيالسي، وأبو بشر: هو جعفر بن أبي وحشيّة.
Grading: Its isnad is sahih.
Note / Clarification: (In the chain) Ali bin Abdullah is Ibn al-Madini, Abu Dawud is Sulayman bin Dawud bin al-Jarud al-Tayalisi, and Abu Bishr is Ja'far bin Abi Wahshiyyah.
وأخرجه مختصرًا بذكر أبي سفيان فقط: ابن أبي حاتم في "تفسيره" 6/ 1761 عن يونس بن حبيب، عن أبي داود الطيالسي، بهذا الإسناد. وذكر فيه تصريح أبي بشر بسماعه له من مجاهد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Hatim recorded it in his "Tafsir" (6/ 1761) in abridged form, mentioning only Abu Sufyan, from Yunus bin Habib, from Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, with this same isnad.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): And he mentioned in it that Abu Bishr explicitly stated he heard it from Mujahid.
ورواه محمد بن جعفر عن شعبة عند الطبري في "تفسيره" 10/ 88 ولم يجاوز فيه مجاهدًا.
Reference / Source: Muhammad bin Ja'far narrated it from Shu'bah in al-Tabari's "Tafsir" (10/ 88), but he did not go beyond Mujahid in it (i.e. he stopped the chain at Mujahid).
