Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3304

أخبرنا أبو زكريا العَنبَري، حدثنا محمد بن عبد السلام، حدثنا إسحاق، أخبرنا جَرِير، عن الأعمش، عن عبد الله بن عبد الله، عن سعيد بن جُبير، عن ابن عبَّاس في قوله ﷿: ﴿يَحُولُ بَيْنَ الْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِ﴾ [الأنفال: 24]، قال: يَحُول بين الكافر وبين الإيمان، ويَحُول بين المؤمن وبين المعاصي (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning this saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "He comes between a man and his heart" [Surah al-Anfal: 24], that he said: "He comes between the disbeliever and faith (if He does not will to guide him), and He comes between the believer and sins (in order to protect him)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

Grading: Its isnad is sahih.
Note / Clarification: (In the chain) Ishaq is Ibn Rahawayh, Jarir is Ibn Abd al-Hamid, and Abdullah bin Abdullah is al-Razi, the freed slave of Banu Hashim.
وأخرجه ابن بطة في "الإبانة" 4/ 159 من طريقين عن جرير بن عبد الحميد، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Battah recorded it in "al-Ibanah" (4/ 159) by two routes from Jarir bin Abd al-Hamid, with this same isnad.
وأخرجه ابن أبي حاتم في "تفسيره" 5/ 1680، واللالكائي في "أصول الاعتقاد" (964 - 965)، والبيهقي في "القضاء والقدر" (326) من طريقين عن الأعمش، به.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Hatim recorded it in his "Tafsir" (5/ 1680), al-Lalaka'i in "Usul al-I'tiqad" (964-965) and al-Bayhaqi in "al-Qada' wa al-Qadar" (326), by two routes from al-A'mash, with this isnad.
