It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abu Jahl said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Muhammad! We certainly know that you maintain the ties of kinship and speak the truth. We do not deny you; rather, we deny that (law) which you have brought." Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "We know well that what they say grieves you, but they do not deny you; rather, it is the signs of Allah that the wrongdoers reject" [Surah al-An'am: 33].
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: It is da'if (weak); it has been narrated both connected (mawsul) and mursal, and the mursal is more authentic, as al-Tirmidhi said in his "Jami'", al-Bukhari (as al-Tirmidhi reported from him in "al-'Ilal al-Kabir" 656), and al-Daraqutni in "al-'Ilal" (4/ (474)). Najiyah bin Ka'b is somewhat unknown. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Ishaq is al-Sabi'i, Amr bin Abd Allah. Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi recorded it in his "Jami'" (3064) by way of Mu'awiyah bin Hisham, from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Abu Ishaq, with the same chain, in connected (mawsul) form. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Mu'awiyah is saduq (truthful) but makes errors. Technical note / Defect ('illah): He was contradicted by Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi, also with al-Tirmidhi (3064), and by Yahya bin Adam with al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" (7/ 182) - and both of them are thiqah hafiz narrators: they narrated it from Sufyan al-Thawri, from Abu Ishaq, from Najiyah bin Ka'b: that Abu Jahl... and he mentioned it as mursal, and that is the mahfuz (preserved) version.
