Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3262

It is narrated from Masruq that an udder (cooked) was brought to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said to the people: "Come close." So the people began eating it, while one man among them (sat apart) to one side. Sayyiduna Abdullah said: "Come close." He said: "I do not want to eat it." He asked: "Why?" He said: "Because I have made (eating) udder forbidden for myself." Sayyiduna Abdullah said: "This is one of the footsteps of Satan." Then he recited this verse: "O you who believe, do not forbid the good things that Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress; indeed Allah does not love the transgressors" [Surah al-Ma'idah: 87]. (Then he said:) "Come close and eat, and make expiation for your oath, for this is one of the whisperings of Satan."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.
