It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said concerning sciatica ('irq al-nasa): "The fat tail of an Arabian ram should be taken, neither the largest nor the smallest; it should be cut into small pieces and melted thoroughly, then divided into three portions, and one portion should be drunk each day on an empty stomach." Anas bin Sirin said: I advised many people to do this (he mentioned a large number), and by the permission of Allah they all recovered.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is sahih. Reference / Source: Ahmad recorded something similar (21/ (13295)) from Muhammad bin Abd Allah al-Ansari, from Hisham bin Hassan, with this chain. Reference / Source: It was also narrated from Hisham bin Hassan by al-Walid bin Muslim (coming at no. 7647), Mu'tamir bin Sulayman (coming at no. 7648), and Hammad bin Zayd (coming at no. 8451). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Hisham was corroborated in it by Habib bin al-Shahid (coming at no. 7649) and by Abu Qabisah Sukayn bin Yazid (as al-Daraqutni mentioned in "al-'Ilal" 12/ 2340, but we did not find it by his route). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Khalid al-Hadhdha' differed from them (as al-Daraqutni mentioned): he narrated it mursal from Anas bin Sirin, from a man among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), without naming him. We did not find this route. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammad bin Salamah also differed: he narrated it from Anas bin Sirin, from his brother Ma'bad, from a man of the Ansar, from his father, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); Ahmad recorded it (34/ (20742)). Grading: This chain is da'if (weak) because the Ansari man is unnamed. Abu Hatim and Abu Zur'ah al-Razi judged this version to be correct, as in Ibn Abi Hatim's "al-'Ilal" (2264) and (2536), and likewise al-Daraqutni in his "al-'Ilal". The author (al-Hakim), however, differed from them later, after hadith (7649), and preferred the narration of al-Mu'tamir and al-Walid bin Muslim, and the correct view is what he said. And Allah the Exalted knows best. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a report from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), with a chain whose narrators are unobjectionable (la ba'sa bihim), in al-Tabarani's "al-Kabir" (12481): that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed the fat tail of a ram for sciatica.
