وحدثني أبو بكر محمد بن أحمد بن بالَوَيهِ، حدثنا إبراهيم بن إسحاق السَّرّاج، حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله بن نُمَير، حدثنا خالد بن مَخلَد، عن حمزة الزَّيَّات، عن الأعمش، عن مصعب بن سعد، فذكر بنحوه، ولم يَذكُر الحَكَم (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه، والحسن بن علي بن عفّان ثقة، وقد أقام الإسناد، وقد أبهَمَه بكرُ بن بكَّار:

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The virtue of knowledge is dearer to me than the virtue of worship" (like the previous hadith).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. Al-Hasan bin Ali bin Affan is trustworthy and he stated the chain correctly, whereas Bakr bin Bakkar made it vague (left a narrator unnamed).

وأخرجه الشاشي في "مسنده" (75)، والدارقطني في "العلل" 4/ 319، والضياء في "المختارة" (1068) من طريقين عن محمد بن عبد الله بن نمير، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Shashi narrated it in his "Musnad" (75), al-Daraqutni in "al-'Ilal" 4/ 319, and al-Diya' al-Maqdisi in "al-Mukhtarah" (1068), via two routes from Muhammad bin Abd Allah bin Numayr with this same chain.
وخالف أحمد بن حفص السعدي عند الإسماعيلي في "المعجم" 1/ 355 - 356 فرواه عن محمد بن عبد الله بن نمير عن أبي خالد الأحمر - وهو سليمان بن حيان - عن حمزة الزيات.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ahmad bin Hafs al-Sa'di differed (as in al-Isma'ili's "al-Mu'jam" 1/ 355), narrating it from Muhammad bin Abd Allah bin Numayr, from Abu Khalid al-Ahmar (Sulayman bin Hayyan), from Hamzah al-Zayyat.
Grading: This narration is also weak, like the one before it.
