Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3182

أخبرني الحسن بن حليم المروزي، أخبرنا أبو الموجِّه، أخبرنا عَبْدان، أخبرنا عبد الله، أخبرنا حُميد الطويل، عن أنس قال: قرأ عمرُ بن الخطَّاب ﴿وَفَاكِهَةٍ وَأَبًّا﴾ [عبس: 31]، فقال بعضهم هكذا، وقال بعضهم هكذا، فقال عمر: دَعُونا من هذا، ﴿آمَنَّا بِهِ كُلٌّ مِنْ عِنْدِ رَبِّنَا﴾ (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) recited the verse "And fruit and abba (fodder)" [Surah Abasa: 31], and some people gave differing opinions on its interpretation. At this Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Leave us away from these (needless discussions); (our task is to say:) 'We believe in it; all of it is from our Lord.'"
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and they did not record it.
