Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This report is sahih, and this chain is "hasan" on account of Muhammad bin Mu'adh (Ibn Yusuf al-Sulami), and he has been corroborated.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu 'Asim is al-Dahhak bin Makhlad, Sufyan is al-Thawri, 'Ammar al-Duhni is Ibn Mu'awiyah, and Muslim al-Batin is Ibn 'Imran.
Reference / Source: Abu Ja'far bin Abi Shaybah recorded it in "al-'Arsh" (61), Ibn Khuzaymah in "al-Tawhid" 1/248, al-Tabarani in "al-Kabir" (12404), al-Daraqutni in "al-Sifat" (36), and al-Harawi in "al-Arba'un fi Dala'il al-Tawhid" (14), via several routes from Abu 'Asim, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Abd al-Razzaq recorded it in his "Tafsir" 2/251, al-Darimi in "al-Naqd 'ala al-Marisi" 1/399-400, Abd Allah bin Ahmad in "al-Sunnah" (586) and (1020), Ibn Khuzaymah 1/249, Ibn Abi Hatim in his "Tafsir" 2/491, al-Daraqutni (37), al-Harawi (14), and al-Khatib in "Tarikh Baghdad" 10/348, via several routes from Sufyan al-Thawri, with the same chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Shuja' bin Makhlad went against the majority and narrated it from Abu 'Asim as marfu' (attributed) to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in what al-Khatib recorded in his "Tarikh" 10/348 and Abu Mansur al-Daylami in "Musnad al-Firdaws" (as in Ibn Hajar's "al-Ghara'ib al-Multaqatah" (2820)); this is an error on the part of Shuja'.

Note / Clarification: In place of what is between the square brackets there is a blank space in the manuscripts, and we have supplied it from Ibn Hajar's "Ithaf al-Maharah" (14772). In this book of his the author (al-Hakim) narrates from Ahmad bin Mihran only through the intermediary of Abu Abd Allah al-Saffar.

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts it is "'aynayhi", in the accusative; what we have retained is from the printed edition, in the nominative as a predicate, and that is more appropriate.
