أخبرنا أحمد بن جعفر القطيعي، حدثنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، حدثني أبي، أخبرنا وَكِيع، حدثنا الفضل بن دَلْهَم عن الحسن، عن مَعقِل بن يَسَار: أنَّ أخته طلَّقها زوُجها، فأراد أن يراجعَها فمَنَعَها معقلٌ، فأنزل الله في ذلك: ﴿وَإِذَا طَلَّقْتُمُ النِّسَاءَ فَبَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَلَا تَعْضُلُوهُنَّ أَنْ يَنْكِحْنَ أَزْوَاجَهُنَّ إِذَا تَرَاضَوْا بَيْنَهُمْ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ﴾ [البقرة: 232] (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه (1)!

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) that his sister was divorced by her husband. Then (after the waiting period) he wanted to remarry her, but Ma'qil (may Allah be pleased with him) prevented her. So Allah Almighty sent down this verse concerning that: "And when you divorce women and they have completed their waiting period, do not prevent them from marrying their (former) husbands when they agree between themselves in an acceptable manner" [Surah al-Baqarah: 232].
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, and the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) حديث صحيح، وهذا إسناد حسن في المتابعات والشواهد الفضل بن دلهم ليس بذاك القوي، وبه أعلَّه الذهبي في "تلخيصه"، لكنه يعتبر به، وقد توبع فيما سلف برقم (2753).
Grading: This hadith is sahih, and this chain is hasan for purposes of corroboration and supporting reports, on account of al-Fadl bin Dalham.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Fadl bin Dalham is not that strong, and it is on his account that al-Dhahabi declared it defective in his "Talkhis"; but he is taken into consideration (for corroboration), and he has been corroborated, as has already appeared under no. (2753).

Note / Clarification: Rather, al-Bukhari recorded something similar, but through a route other than this one, from al-Hasan al-Basri.
