It is narrated from Abu al-Aliyah that he said: I was walking with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) while he was in the state of ihram. He was chanting camel-driving verses (huda') to drive on the camels, saying: "And they, the she-camels, carry us along, treading softly." The narrator says: I said: Are you engaging in obscene talk (rafath) while you are in the state of ihram? He said: "Rafath (obscene talk) is only that which is said to women (about intimacy)."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is sahih. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Jarir refers to 'Ibn Abd al-Hamid', and Abu al-Aliyah refers to 'Rufay' bin Mihran'. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in 5/ 67 from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain. Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani recorded it in his "Tafsir" 2/ 263 - 264 from Muhammad bin Humayd al-Razi, from Jarir, with this same chain. Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Shaybah recorded it in (14707 - Awwamah), and al-Tabari in 2/ 265, via two routes from al-A'mash with this same chain. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-A'mash was corroborated in this by Fitr bin Khalifah, in Ibn Abd al-Barr's "al-Tamhid" 19/ 54; he narrated it from Ziyad bin Husayn, from Abu al-Aliyah, from Ibn Abbas. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The two of them (al-A'mash and Fitr) were contradicted by Awf al-A'rabi, who narrated it from Ziyad bin Husayn, from his father, from Ibn Abbas. Sa'id bin Mansur recorded it in the Tafsir section of his "Sunan" (345). The narration of al-A'mash and Fitr is more authentic, although there is nothing to prevent Ziyad bin Husayn from having two shaykhs for it, and Allah the Exalted knows best. Note / Clarification: Regarding his statement "ما روجع به النساء", Ibn al-Athir said in "al-Nihayah" (root r-f-th): It is as though Ibn Abbas held that the 'rafath' which Allah prohibited is what a woman is addressed with; as for what a man says that no woman hears, it is not included in it. We say: The majority (jumhur) hold that 'rafath' means sexual intercourse and its preliminaries. 1/ 116. Note / Clarification: "Al-hamis" is a kind of walking in which no sound of footsteps is heard. This was said by al-Saraqusti in his "Gharib", as in al-Zayla'i's "Takhrij Ahadith al-Kashshaf" 1/ 116.
