أخبرني إسماعيل بن محمد بن الفضل بن محمد، حدثنا جدِّي، حدثنا عمرو بن عَوْن الواسطي، حدثنا هُشَيم، أخبرنا خالد بن صفوان، عن زيد بن علي بن الحسين، عن أبيه، عن ابن عبَّاس قال: جاءه نَعْيُ بعضِ أهله، وهو في سفرٍ، فصلَّى ركعتين ثم قال: فَعَلْنا ما أَمر اللهُ: ﴿اسْتَعِينُوا بِالصَّبْرِ وَالصَّلَاةِ﴾ (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that while he was on a journey, news reached him of the death of one of his family members. He (dismounted and) prayed two rak'ahs and then said: We have done what Allah commanded: "Seek help through patience and prayer" [Surah al-Baqarah: 153].
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) خبر صحيح، وهذا إسناد فيه لِين من أجل خالد بن صفوان، فإنه لا يُعرف أنه روى عنه غير هُشيم بن بشير، وذكره البخاري في "تاريخه" 3/ 156، وابن أبي حاتم في "الجرح والتعديل" 3/ 336، فلم يذكرا فيه جرحًا ولا تعديلًا، وذكره ابن حبان في "الثقات".
Grading: This report is sahih, and in this chain there is 'softness' (lin, i.e. weakness) because of Khalid bin Safwan, since no one other than Hushaym bin Bashir is known to have narrated from him. Al-Bukhari mentioned him in his "Tarikh" 3/ 156 and Ibn Abi Hatim in "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil" 3/ 336, but neither of them mentioned any criticism or praise of him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat".
وأخرجه البيهقي في "شعب الإيمان" (9232) عن أبي عبد الله الحاكم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (9232) from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain.
وأخرجه سعيد بن منصور في التفسير من "سننه" (189) و (232)، والمروزي في "تعظيم قدر الصلاة" (201) من طريق هشيم، به وأسقط منه سعيد والدَ زيد بن علي.
Reference / Source: Sa'id bin Mansur recorded it in the Tafsir section of his "Sunan" (189) and (232), and al-Marwazi in "Ta'zim Qadr al-Salah" (201), via the route of Hushaym with this same chain, and Sa'id dropped from it the father of Zayd bin Ali.
وأخرجه سعيد أيضًا (231)، وابن أبي عاصم في "الآحاد والمثاني" (398)، والطبراني في "تفسيره" 1/ 260، والبيهقي في "الشعب" (9233) من طريق عيينة بن عبد الرحمن، عن أبيه، عن ابن عبَّاس. وإسناده صحيح.
