Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was turned towards the Ka'bah, the people said: O Messenger of Allah, what about those who died while they were praying towards Bayt al-Maqdis? Then Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "And Allah would never let your faith be lost" [Surah al-Baqarah: 143]. Ubaydullah bin Musa said: This hadith tells you that prayer is part of faith.
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.
