Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3099

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning the saying of Allah, "And thus We have made you a middle nation", that he said: It means a "just" (nation).
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This report is sahih, and this chain is 'strong' (qawi) because of Yahya bin Ja'far; he (Yahya) is Ibn al-Zibriqan, and he is Yahya bin Abi Talib.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): A group other than al-Thawri narrated it from al-A'mash, and in their versions it appears to be marfu' to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Reference / Source: Ahmad recorded it in 17/ (11068) and (11271), al-Bukhari in (3339), (4487) and (7349), al-Tirmidhi in (2961), al-Nasa'i in (10939), and Ibn Hibban in (6477) and (7216), via various routes from al-A'mash with this same chain;
Important point: hence al-Hakim's inclusion of it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight on his part.
