Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3096

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Ibrahim (peace be upon him), the Friend of the Most Merciful, came from Armenia with the "Sakinah" (a guiding cloud of light), which guided him to the site of the House, just as a spider chooses a place for its home (web). Then Ibrahim (peace be upon him) dug beneath the Sakinah and uncovered foundations of the Ka'bah, each one of which could not be moved by fewer than thirty men.

Note / Clarification: There is a blank space here in the original manuscripts.
Grading: This report is mawquf, and its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Amir al-Aqadi refers to 'Abd al-Malik bin Amr'.
Reference / Source: Abd al-Razzaq recorded it in his "Musannaf" (9098), al-Tabari in his "Tafsir" 1/ 548 - 549, and likewise Ibn Abi Hatim in 1/ 232, via the route of Sufyan bin Uyaynah, from Bishr bin Asim, with this same chain. At its end it has: Bishr bin Asim said: I said, O Abu Muhammad (meaning Sa'id bin al-Musayyab), Allah the Exalted says: ﴿وَإِذْ يَرْفَعُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ الْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ الْبَيْتِ﴾ (And when Ibrahim was raising the foundations of the House) [al-Baqarah: 127]. He said: That (event) was later.
