أخبرني أبو جعفر محمد بن علي بن دُحَيم الشَّيباني بالكوفة، حدثنا أحمد ابن حازم بن أبي غَرَزَة الغِفاري، حدثنا قَبِيصة بن عُقْبة، حدثنا سفيان، عن الأعمش، عن مُسلِم البَطِين، عن سعيد بن جُبَير، عن ابن عبَّاس: ﴿وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْ أَحْرَصَ النَّاسِ عَلَى حَيَاةٍ﴾ قال: اليهود ﴿وَمِنَ الَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا﴾ [البقرة: 96] قال: الأعاجم (2). قد اتفق الشيخان على سَنَد تفسير الصحابي (3)، وهذا إسناد صحيح على شرطهما، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) concerning the saying of Allah: "And you will surely find them the most eager of people for life" [Surah al-Baqarah: 96], that it refers to the Jews, and "and (even more than) those who associate others with Allah" refers to the non-Arab polytheists.
The two Shaykhs agreed upon the chain of a Companion's tafsir, and this chain is sahih (authentic) on the condition of both of them, but they did not record it.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): Sufyan is al-Thawri.
وأخرجه ابن أبي حاتم في "تفسيره" 1/ 178 من طريق عبد الرحمن بن مهدي، عن سفيان، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ibn Abi Hatim recorded it in his "Tafsir" 1/178 by way of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi from Sufyan, with this chain.
