أخبرنا أبو زكريا يحيى بن محمد العَنبَري، حدثنا محمد بن عبد السلام، حدثنا إسحاق، أخبرنا عبد الرزاق، أخبرنا مَعمَر، عن الزُّهْري، عن عُبيد الله بن عبد الله، عن ابن عبَّاس قال: كيف تَسألون عن شيء وعندكم كتابُ الله! أحدثُ الأخبار بالله، وقد أخبَرَكم (1) أنهم كَتَبوا كتابًا بأيديهم وبدَّلوا وحرَّفوا وقالوا: هذا من عند الله، واشتَرَوْا به ثمنًا قليلًا، فعندكم كتابُ الله مَحْضٌ لم يُشَبْ، فوالله لا يَسألُكم أحدٌ منهم عن الذي أُنزِلَ عليكم (2).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that: Why do you ask (the People of the Book) about anything when you have the Book of Allah, which is the most recent news revealed from Allah! Allah has informed you that they wrote a book with their own hands, altered it, distorted it and said: "This is from Allah," in order to gain a small price by it. Whereas you have the Book of Allah (the Qur'an), which is pure and has no admixture in it. So by Allah! Not one of them asks you about what has been revealed to you.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

(1) في (ز) و (ص) و (ع): أخبرهم، والمثبت من (ب).
Note / Clarification: In manuscripts (Z), (S) and ('A) it is "أخبرهم", and what we have retained (in the text) is from manuscript (B).
(2) إسناده صحيح. إسحاق: هو ابن إبراهيم الحنظلي المعروف بابن راهويه.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ishaq is Ibn Ibrahim al-Hanzali, known as Ibn Rahawayh.
وأخرجه البخاري "2685) و (7363) و (7523) من طرق عن ابن شهاب الزهري، بهذا الإسناد. فاستدراك المصنف له ذهولٌ منه.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (2685), (7363) and (7523) recorded it by various routes from Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, with this chain;
Important point: so the author's including it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight on his part.
وأخرجه مختصرًا البخاري أيضًا (7522) من طريق أيوب، عن عكرمة، عن ابن عبَّاس.
Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari also recorded it in abridged form (7522) by way of Ayyub from 'Ikrimah from Ibn 'Abbas.
قوله: "مَحْضٌ لم يُشَب" أي: خالص لم يُخلَط بشيء من كلام البشر وتحريفاتهم.
Note / Clarification: The words "مَحْضٌ لم يُشَب" mean: completely pure, not mixed with anything of human speech and their distortions.
