Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3051

It is narrated from Sayyidah Asma' bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reciting: "For the familiarity of Quraysh, their familiarity (ilfihim) with the journey of winter and summer." [Surah Quraysh: 1-2]
This hadith is gharib (singular) with a high (ali) chain in this chapter, and the two Shaykhs (Imam Bukhari and Muslim) do not use Shahr bin Hawshab as evidence.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): In manuscript (B) it is "إيلافهم", while what we have retained (in the text) is from manuscripts (Z) and (S), and that is correct. Al-Tabari stated it explicitly in his "Tafsir" 30/305. This reading is narrated from Ibn Fulayh from Ibn Kathir al-Makki (one of the Seven Readers), as in Ibn Zanjalah's "Hujjat al-Qira'at" p. 774. Ibn al-Jazari in "al-Nashr fi al-Qira'at al-'Ashr" 28/404 attributed it to the narration of al-'Umari from Abu Ja'far al-Madani (one of the Ten Readers), and said: All the people contradicted him.

Grading: Its chain is weak because Shahr bin Hawshab is alone in narrating it.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu 'Ali al-Hanafi is 'Ubaydullah bin 'Abd al-Majid.
Reference / Source: Ahmad 45/(27607) recorded it by way of 'Ubaydullah bin Abi Ziyad al-Qaddah from Shahr bin Hawshab, and in it the word appears as "إيلافهم", like the well-known reading.
