حدثنا علي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل، حدثنا عُبيد بن حاتم العِجْلُ (2) وإبراهيم ابن أبي طالب قالا: حدثنا نُوح بن حَبِيب، حدثنا عبد الملك بن عبد الرحمن الذَّمَاري، حدثنا سفيان الثَّوْري، عن محمد بن المنكدِر، عن جابر بن عبد الله: أنَّ النبي ﷺ قرأ: (يَحسِبُ أنَّ مالَه أخلَدَه) [الهمزة: 3]؛ بكسر السين (3).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the word "yahsibu" with a kasrah under the letter sin: "He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal." [Surah al-Humazah: 3]
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) تحرَّف في النسخ الخطية إلى: العجلي، بزيادة ياء النسبة، والصواب أنه العِجل بلا ياء، وعُبَيدٌ العِجل لقبٌ له، واسمه الحسين بن محمد بن حاتم الحافظ، انظر ترجمته في "سير أعلام النبلاء" 14/ 90.
Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts it was corrupted into (العجلي), with the added ya' of attribution; the correct form is (العِجل) without the ya', and 'Ubayd al-'Ijl is his nickname. His name is al-Husayn bin Muhammad bin Hatim al-Hafiz. See his biography in "Siyar A'lam al-Nubala'" 14/90.
(3) إسناده حسن من أجل عبد الملك بن عبد الرحمن الذماري.
Grading: Its chain is hasan because of 'Abd al-Malik bin 'Abd al-Rahman al-Dhimari.
وأخرجه النَّسَائِي (11634)، وابن حبان (6332) من طريق نوح بن حبيب بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (11634) and Ibn Hibban (6332) recorded it by way of Nuh bin Habib, with this chain.
وأخرجه أبو داود (3995) عن أحمد بن صالح، عن عبد الملك الذماري، به. وهذه القراءة بكسر السين قرأ بها أبو عمرو ونافع وابن كثير والكسائي من السبعة، وقرأ الباقون بفتح السين. انظر "النشر" لابن الجزري 2/ 236.

Technical note / Defect ('illah): This reading with kasrah on the sin was read by Abu 'Amr, Nafi', Ibn Kathir and al-Kisa'i among the Seven Readers, while the rest read it with fathah on the sin. (See Ibn al-Jazari's "al-Nashr" 2/236.)
