It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting facing a hole, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If hardship were to come and enter this hole, ease would come after it and enter it and drive the hardship out." The narrator said: Upon this, Allah Almighty revealed these verses: "So indeed, with hardship comes ease; indeed, with hardship comes ease." [Surah al-Sharh: 5-6]
This is a strange (ajib) hadith; however, the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not use its narrator A'idh bin Shurayh as evidence.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is da'if (weak). Al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": Humayd bin Hammad is alone in narrating it from 'A'idh, and Humayd is munkar al-hadith, like 'A'idh. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The narrator 'Abdullah bin Mahmud is Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Sa'di al-Marwazi al-Hafiz. Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi recorded it in "Shu'ab al-Iman" (9540) from Abu 'Abdullah al-Hakim, with this chain. Reference / Source: Abu Nu'aym recorded it in "Akhbar Asbahan" 1/107 by way of Ahmad bin Ibrahim bin Ya'ish from Mahmud bin Ghaylan. Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (7530), al-Tabarani in "al-Awsat" (1525) and Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" 2/278 recorded it by way of Muhammad bin Ma'mar from Humayd bin Hammad. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is a marfu' narration from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) in 'Abd al-Razzaq's "Tafsir" 2/380-381 and al-Tabarani's "al-Kabir" (9977), Grading: and its chain is very weak. Reference / Source: It is also narrated from him (Ibn Mas'ud) as mawquf, as his own statement, in al-Tabari's "Tafsir" 30/236, Ibn Abi al-Dunya's "al-Faraj ba'd al-Shiddah" (130) and al-Bayhaqi's "al-Shu'ab" (9539). Grading: Its chain is weak because the narrator who reports it from Ibn Mas'ud is unknown (majhul).
