Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3046

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Malik bin al-Huwayrith (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him to recite these verses this way: "So on that Day none will punish as He punishes, and none will bind as He binds." — "So on that Day no one else will be able to inflict a punishment like the punishment of Allah, and no one else will seize as severely as Allah seizes." [Surah al-Fajr: 25-26]
This chain is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), and the Companion whose name is not explicitly mentioned in this chain has been identified by other hadith scholars as Malik bin al-Huwayrith (may Allah be pleased with him).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: This is how it is in manuscripts (Z) and (S), while in manuscript (B) and the printed edition it is (الغزّال), and that is also correct. See the discussion of this narrator's attribution in the note on the earlier hadith no. (971).

Technical note / Defect ('illah): We have not found a biography of 'Abdullah bin 'Ali al-Qazzaz, and all the rest of its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): There is a disagreement over its chain: Shu'bah narrated it from Khalid al-Hadhdha' like Ibn al-Mubarak's narration here (in Ahmad 34/20691 and Abu Dawud 3996). Hammad bin Zayd narrated it, in Abu Dawud (3997), from Khalid al-Hadhdha' from Abu Qilabah from the one whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught to recite, or the one taught by someone whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught (thus, with doubt). It is also narrated by two weak routes from Khalid al-Hadhdha' in Abu Nu'aym's "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (2147) and (2148), in which the Companion is named as Malik bin al-Huwayrith.
Details of the narration: By one of these two routes it will come with the author later under no. (6780), by way of 'Asim al-Jahdari from Abu Qilabah from Malik bin al-Huwayrith.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This reading has the passive form (bina' lil-maf'ul) in both words (يعذَّب) and (يوثَق), as is made clear in sources other than the author, and al-Kisa'i among the Seven Readers read it thus. (See Ibn Mujahid's "al-Sab'ah", p. 685.)

Note / Clarification: There is a blank space here in the original manuscripts.
