Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3044

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these verses: "So remind, for you are only a reminder; you are not a controller over them" — here he recited the word "musaytir" with the letter sad — "except whoever turns away and disbelieves." "So remind, for you are only a reminder; you are not a warden over them, except whoever turns away and disbelieves." [Surah al-Ghashiyah: 21-23]
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits

Grading: The hadith is sahih and this chain is qawi (strong), and it is part of the hadith coming later under no. (3970).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu al-Zubayr explicitly stated that he heard it from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) in the hadith of Ibn Jurayj from him, recorded by Ahmad 22/(14141). Abu Nu'aym is al-Fadl bin Dukayn, Qabisah is Ibn 'Uqbah, Sufyan is al-Thawri, and Abu al-Zubayr is Muhammad bin Muslim bin Tadrus al-Makki.
Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (11606) recorded it from 'Amr bin Mansur from Abu Nu'aym, with this chain - exactly like the narration coming later under no. (3970) (see its full takhrij there), except that none of them explicitly mentioned the reading as it is in the author's narration here.
