It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty created the creation, and when He had finished with it, the womb (kinship) stood up and said: 'This is the station of one who seeks refuge with You from being severed.' Allah said: 'Yes. Will you not be pleased that I keep ties with whoever keeps ties with you, and cut off whoever cuts you off?' It said: 'Certainly (O Lord)!' Allah said: 'Then that is yours.'" Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite, if you wish: 'Then would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on the earth and sever your ties of kinship?'" until he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited up to this verse: "Or are there locks upon their hearts?" — "Then is it to be expected of you, if you were given authority, that you would spread corruption on the earth and sever your ties of kinship? Or are there locks upon their hearts?" [Surah Muhammad: 22-24]
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: The hadith is sahih, and this chain is qawi (strong). Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (4831) and Muslim (2554) recorded it by various routes from Hatim bin Isma'il, with this chain, Important point: so al-Hakim's including it as a supplement to the two of them (al-Bukhari and Muslim) is an oversight on his part (may Allah have mercy on him). Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (4830) and (7502) recorded it by way of Sulayman bin Bilal, and al-Bukhari also (4832) and (5987), al-Nasa'i (11433) and Ibn Hibban (441) by way of 'Abdullah bin al-Mubarak, both of them (Sulayman and Ibn al-Mubarak) from Mu'awiyah bin Abi Muzarrid; Technical note / Defect ('illah): except that Sulayman bin Bilal made the one who said "اقرؤوا إن شئتم" ("Recite if you wish") Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him). Details of the narration: It will come under no. (7473) by way of Abu Bakr al-Hanafi from Mu'awiyah, like the narration of Hatim bin Isma'il. Reference / Source: Al-Bukhari (5988) recorded something similar by way of Abu Salih from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), but without the words "Recite if you wish... etc." Details of the narration: Likewise it will come with the author later under no. (7452) by way of Abu Salamah, and under no. (7474) by way of Muhammad bin Ka'b al-Qurazi, both of them from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him).
