Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain has some "lin" (weakness). Technical note / Defect ('illah): This weakness is because of Sallam bin Sulayman al-Mada'ini, and it is for this reason that al-Dhahabi declared it defective in "al-Talkhis". Reference / Source: Al-Tabarani narrated it in "al-Awsat" (9371) and "al-Saghir" (1129), Ibn 'Adi in "al-Kamil" 3/ 310, Tammam in "al-Fawa'id" (511), and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 64/ 229-230, by various routes from Sallam bin Sulayman, with this same chain. Some of them explicitly state fathah on the shin of the word "shurb". 623. General principle: This (with fathah on the shin) is the reading of Abu 'Amr bin al-'Ala', Ibn Kathir, Ibn 'Amir, and al-Kisa'i among the Seven, while Nafi', 'Asim, and Hamzah read (شُرْبَ الهِيم) with dammah on the shin. See "al-Sab'ah", p. 623.
