حدثنا أبو العبَّاس محمد بن يعقوب، حدثنا محمد بن إسحاق الصَّغَاني، حدثنا حسين بن محمد المَرُّوذي، حدثنا أبو عبد الرحمن الأَرْطَباني (2) ابنُ عمِّ عبد الله بن عَوْن، عن عاصم الجَحدَري، عن أبي بَكْرة: أنَّ النبي ﷺ قرأ: (متَّكِئِينَ على رَفارِفَ خُضْرٍ وعَبَاقِرِيَّ (3) حِسَانٍ) [الرحمن: 76] (4). صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the noble verse with these words: "Reclining on green cushions and exquisitely beautiful carpets ('abaqariyy)." [Surah al-Rahman: 76]
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) كذا كناه الحاكم في روايته، وكل من ترجم له إنما كناه أبا حفص، واسمه عبد الله بن حفص الأرطباني، انظر "التاريخ الكبير" للبخاري 5/ 76، و "الجرح والتعديل" لابن أبي حاتم 5/ 36، و "الثقات" لابن حبان 7/ 30، وغيرهم، وله ترجمة في "تهذيب الكمال" للمزي، وهو لا بأس به فيما قاله الإمام أحمد.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hakim gave him this kunyah in his narration, whereas everyone who wrote his biography gave his kunyah as "Abu Hafs". His name is "Abd Allah bin Hafs al-Artabani". See al-Bukhari's "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" 5/ 76, Ibn Abi Hatim's "al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil" 5/ 36, Ibn Hibban's "al-Thiqat" 7/ 30, and others. Al-Mizzi has a biography of him in "Tahdhib al-Kamal". He is "la ba'sa bihi" (acceptable), as Imam Ahmad said.
(3) في (ب) والمطبوع: ﴿عَلَى رَفْرَفٍ خُضْرٍ وَعَبْقَرِيٍّ﴾، على قراءة الجمهور، وهو خطأ، والصواب ما أثبتناه من بقية النسخ، فهكذا هي قراءة عاصم الجحدري، وهي قراءة شاذَّة، انظر "المحتسب" لابن جِنِّي 2/ 305.
Note / Clarification: Manuscript (B) and the printed edition have, according to the reading of the majority: ﴿عَلَى رَفْرَفٍ خُضْرٍ وَعَبْقَرِيٍّ﴾ [on green cushions and fine carpets], which is an error (here). The correct text is what we adopted from the remaining manuscripts, for this is the reading of "'Asim al-Jahdari", and it is a "shadh" reading. See Ibn Jinni's "al-Muhtasab" 2/ 305.
(4) إسناده ضعيف، قال الذهبي في "تلخيصه": منقطع وعاصم لم يدرك أبا بكرة. وذكر هذه الرواية أبو جعفر النحاس في "إعراب القرآن" 4/ 213 وقال: إسنادها ليس بالصحيح.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Dhahabi said in "al-Talkhis": It is "munqati'" (broken), and 'Asim did not live in the time of Abu Bakrah. Abu Ja'far al-Nahhas mentioned it in "I'rab al-Qur'an" 4/ 213 and said: Its chain is not sahih.
وأخرجه أبو عمر الدُّوري في "قراءات النبي ﷺ " (114)، والبزار (3673) من طريق الحسين بن محمد، بهذا الإسناد. وتحرّف "الحُسَين" في المطبوع من البزار إلى: الحسن.
Reference / Source: Abu 'Umar al-Duri narrated it in "Qira'at al-Nabi (peace and blessings be upon him)" (114), and al-Bazzar (3673), by way of al-Husayn bin Muhammad, with this same chain. In the printed edition of al-Bazzar, "al-Husayn" has been corrupted into "al-Hasan".
