أخبرني أبو بكر محمد بن المؤمَّل بن الحسن بن عيسى، حدثنا الفضل ابن محمد الشَّعْراني، حدثنا نُعيم بن حمّاد وأحمد بن جَميل المروَزي وعَبْدة بن سليمان الطَّرَسوسي قالوا: حدثنا عبد الله بن المبارَك، أخبرنا سعيد بن يزيد أبو شُجَاع، عن أبي السَّمْح درَّاج بن سِمْعان، عن أبي الهيثم سليمان بن عمرو بن عبد العُتْواري، عن أبي سعيد، عن رسول الله ﷺ: ﴿وَهُمْ فِيهَا كَالِحُونَ﴾ [المؤمنون: 104] قال: "تَشْوِيهِ النارُ فتَقلِصُ شَفَتُه العُليا حتى تَبْلُغَ وَسَطَ رأسِه، وتَسترخي شفتُه السُّفلى حتى تَبلُغَ سُرَّتَه" (2).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), concerning the statement of Allah Almighty, "And they will be grim-faced therein (in Hell)" [Surah al-Mu'minun: 104], said: "The Fire will scorch them so that the upper lip will shrink back until it reaches the middle of the head, and the lower lip will hang down until it reaches the navel."
This is a sahih (authentic) hadith with a chain of Egyptian narrators, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(2) إسناده ضعيف لضعف رواية أبي السمح عن أبي الهيثم.
Grading: Its chain is "da'if".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): This weakness is because of the narration of Abu al-Samh from Abu al-Haytham.
وأخرجه أحمد 18/ (11836)، والترمذي (2587) و (3176) من طريقين عن عبد الله بن المبارك، بهذا الإسناد. وحسَّنه الترمذي. وسيأتي برقم (3532).
Reference / Source: Ahmad 18/ (11836), and al-Tirmidhi (2587) and (3176) narrated it by two routes from Abd Allah bin al-Mubarak, with this same chain.
Grading: Al-Tirmidhi graded it "hasan". This narration will come under number (3532).
