It is narrated from Zirr bin Hubaysh that a man recited before Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) the word "Taha" (at the beginning of Surah Taha) with a fathah, so Abdullah bin Mas'ud taught him to read it with a kasrah, "Tihi". The man said: Its meaning is "Place your foot" (so it should have a fathah). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me to read it this way (with the kasrah), and Jibril (peace be upon him) came down with it this way. [Surah Taha: 1]
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it. In the narration of Muhammad bin Ubaydullah bin Asim, Abdullah bin Mas'ud said: "By Allah! the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught it to me exactly this way."

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This hadith is "hasan", if Allah wills. Technical note / Defect ('illah): The author's shaykh, "Abu Bakr bin Abi Darim", has been criticised, but he is not alone in narrating it. 'Asim is "Ibn Abi al-Nujud" and Zirr is "Ibn Hubaysh". Reference / Source: Tammam al-Razi narrated it in "al-Fawa'id" (1692) by way of Qays bin al-Rabi', from 'Asim, from Zirr, from Ibn Mas'ud: that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) read (طِهِ) with kasrah on the ta' and the ha'. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Although Qays bin al-Rabi' has weakness, he is taken into account in corroborating chains and supporting reports. General principle: This reading, reported from Ibn Mas'ud, was read among the Seven by Hamzah, al-Kisa'i, and 'Asim in the narration of Abu Bakr (as in "al-Sab'ah" by Ibn Mujahid, p. 416), with "imalah" in both letters.
(22). Technical note / Defect ('illah): "Muhammad bin 'Ubayd Allah" here is most probably "al-'Arzami" (as far as we can tell); his full name is "Muhammad bin 'Ubayd Allah bin Abi Sulayman al-Kufi", and he is "matruk" (abandoned). Abu Ali al-Sawwaf recorded this hadith by his route in "al-Fawa'id" (22).
